Scott would like to invite you to spend a relaxing day with him at the Healesville Sanctuary, strolling casually as a group through the grounds, chatting about the symbology and spiritual significance of the native animals that live there, including the Kangaroo, Koala and Wombat. The MAKE YOUR OWN JOURNEY DRUM Workshop

During this workshop:

• Day one will see you cut the hide and the strapping that will bind the skin to the Drum’s frame.
• Day two will see you stretch the Deer-skin over the frame and imbue the Drum with a sacred prayer of intent and thanks.

Why make a JOURNEY DRUM with Scott?

Scott was taught the art of Drum Making by his Elder, Grandmother Dreaming Woman, during an 18 month intensive period of learning, remembering and healing (back in 1995 – 1997). It was to become what he now calls his time of ‘spiritual apprenticeship’.

Since then, Scott has created countless Drums. He has also guided hundreds of others through the process. His Drums are octagonal in shape, which honours the traditional design of the Journey Drum. Unlike the more commonly recognised round ‘Healing’ Drums, Scott’s octagonal Drums are eight-sided in design; a design that incorporates corners and welcomes the shadows that dwell there. He believes that the shadows that hide in these corners acknowledge the ‘shadow aspects’ of Self that must to be addressed and surrendered if we are to heal; shadow aspects such as fear, limitation, grief and shame. The octagonal ‘journey’ Drum invites us to go within and face these shadows; to overcome them and emerge the other side as whole, healthy beings.

Unlike other Drum-makers, Scott doesn’t use artificial sinew to bind the hide to his frames. Instead he honours the time-honoured technique of cutting the necessary length of strapping from the excess raw hide used to create the Drum’s skin. The process in making a Drum is both exhilarating and, at times, confronting, as pent-up emotions and issues long thought forgotten make their way to the surface. The making of a Drum is a highly personal exercise, with some describing the process as healing, enlightening and life-changing.

About the JOURNEY DRUM

The Drum echoes the pulse of the Earth Mother's heart. Its rhythm guides us to other dimensions, new opportunities and heightened levels of awareness. The steady beat of the Drum offers clarity and awareness and the avoidance of tunnel vision. We are often so consumed by mental and spiritual activity that we tend to neglect the tangible world, our health and other responsibilities. The Drum reminds us to tap into our inherent rhythms and to intuitively listen to what our body may be trying to tell us about our physical well-being. The Drum reinstates a sense of emotional balance, buoyancy and stability. It helps us regain a solid foothold on life and rekindle the fire in our belly so that we can make practical but long-overdue decisions potent enough to instigate powerful new beginnings.

The Drum returns us to our centre; it refocuses intent and affords symbolic rebirth and renewal. The power of this sound is realised audibly and vibrationally, thus realigning us on a united heart-felt level. The Drum reawakens ancient knowledge stored in the memory of all people. It nurtures us as we seek the wisdom held in store, to be remembered when we re-embrace the heartbeat of our Earth Mother. Healing is something only you can do for yourself. • Participate in Scott's popular 'Walk on the Wild Side'; a casual stroll around the zoo's two main walking tracks; a relaxing, casual stroll, taken as a group through the zoo, chatting about the symbology and spiritual significance of the animals that live there.
• Learn about (and engage in) 'Interspecies Communication', to receive and relay a message from an animal in the zoo for someone else in the group
• Participate in a private Safari Tour (booked exclusively for Animal Dreaming particpants only). Experience the sights and sounds of the African savannah as you come face-to-face with the zoo's magnificent wildlife in one of their famous Safari Buses.
• Finish the day off with a ROAR! Experience an exclusive behind the scenes “Rip Roaring Lion Tour”, which will include a ½ hour keeper talk with behavioural enrichment activities that may involve the Lions interacting with toys, sensory stimuli (herbs and Dung) or a rip roaring feed. • Explore Shamanism, its history and healing practises
• Learn to feel the 'Totem Energy' of another in the group
• Give and receive intuitive 'Totem Energy' readings

• Participate in the ancient Smudging Ceremony (if the venue permits)
• Participate in a guided meditative journey to find you Power Animal
• Learn how the animals can be invoked to aid in healing, manifestation and more

Scott would like to invite you to spend a relaxing day with him at the Adelaide Zoo, strolling casually as a group through the grounds, chatting about the symbology and spiritual significance of the native animals that live there, including the Flamingo, Hippopotamus and Sun Bear. What a perfect opportunity to spend some quality time together, deepening your spiritual relationship with the animals in a small, intimate group.

Where to meet: at the Zoo’s main entrance - no later than 9.45am
